Ingredients
  

  • teaspoons active dry yeast
  • ¾ cup warm water
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • ½ cup buttermilk
  • 1 egg
  • cups flour
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • Oil for frying
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 –3 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions
 

  • In a bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit until foamy.
  • Add buttermilk, egg, butter, and flour.
  • Mix to form a dough and let rise for 1 hour.
  • Roll out dough to ½-inch thick. Cut into squares.
  • Fry in oil heated to 350°F, about 1–2 minutes per side, until golden.
  • Mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla for the glaze.

Notes

  • For extra sweetness, dust the glazed beignets with more powdered sugar.
  • You can skip the glaze and roll them in cinnamon sugar instead for a fun twist.
